This pack includes posters and activities to support the teaching of: Set 1: s a t p Set 2: i n m d Set 3: g o c k Set 4: ck e u r Set 5: h b f ff l ll ss How do you use this booklet? The teaching materials in this booklet suggest an order for teaching letters and provide a selection of activities to support learning and practising reading and writing with the sounds learned. Feel free to pick and choose the suitable activities for your child, they may need to do more activities for some of the letters than others, pick the pace that suits their needs! It must always be remembered that phonics is the step up to word recognition. Automatic reading of all words – decodable and tricky – is the ultimate goal.

Based on the fairy tale of The Little Mermaid. Good for younger readers or children who need support. This product includes: 8 Hand drawn pictures with space for writing for the children to cut out, sequence, write about and colour in. Word bank and captions page for children who are sequencing the story and matching the description to the pictures rather than writing 8 pictures to cut out Blank story map page to paste the pictures in sequence To differentiate: -Support could use the pictures and story map page -Core children could cut out and sequence the pictures and match with the captions -More able children can sequence and write independently with given challenges such as ‘Include at least 3 time adverbials’ Sequencing activities usually take a few sessions. Cut, order and stick the activities. Writing captions for the first half of the images Writing for the second half of the activities I usually ask the children to colour after they have met the objectives for that session and finish colouring in at the end. Black and white. No colour ink needed! *Please note that I have arranged the pictures in order already. This is mainly to help teachers. I usually ask the children to cut them out and then give them a little shuffle before they start sequencing to challenge themselves! ** If you need to add extra challenge for children reading and sticking the captions instead of writing, black out the numbers before photocopying!
